Chief Librarian Solaris

He leapt purposefully out of the rear of the Thunderhawk, his assault squad lost behind him. Tapping into the warp he enhanced his already-formidable senses. His blade entered the first Chaos Marines gut and with a surge of warp-energy took its life. He turned to the others and raised his palm threateningly. Suddenly, great arcs of lightning leapt from his fingertips, incinerating the remainder of the Marines. Then Jason emerged from the mist, his black armour shining menacingly, blade sheathed, but glowing menacingly. Solaris halted, readying his blade and prepared for the inevitable attack.

Solaris is the current Chief Librarian of the Shadow Hunters, a beta level psyker of exceptional skill and power. Wielding an ancient swordstaff of unbelievable craftsmanship, his strength with the blade is matched by few and his mastery of the warp strong as that of the ancients.
Librarian Solaris appeared amongst the ranks of the Shadow Hunters almost 10 years ago, an already established Librarian. No record tells of his history before that and no-one in the chapter knows the full extent of his past, although there are many conspiracies involving it. He rose through the ranks quickly, fighting impressively on Durin IV, before spearing an assault into the very depth of a splinter fleet and annihilating it with a well-placed explosive. The resulting warp rift created – after destroying the warp drive caused the emergence of a Chaos fleet, lead by Khornate Warmaster Jason. The second and third company lead by Solaris lead a campaign against Jacob across many worlds, being thwarted at every defence. Daemon Hunters were dispatched to assist the Shadow Hunters, but on the fifth world of the campaign, something surprising happened. Solaris vanished. And in this hour where everything seemed lost a host of Thousand Sons materialised into our galaxy, and annihilated the Khornate force before the Sorcerer leading the force confronted Jason himself. Jason’s corpse was recovered later by the surviving Grey Knights, lead by Solaris who re-surfaced from hiding. After leading several battles against an Ork Waagh!, Solaris converged the Chapters captains and lead their fleet to assist in the defence of Terra against Abbadon.
He confronted Abbadon in battle mere months ago, bringing down 5 of Abbadon’s disciples and learning more of his opponent, managing only to lose an arm in the process. He has sworn he will claim revenge for his arm and is currently doing everything within his power to halt the despoiler.

Solaris stood, his blade ready and turned to face the despoiler. He was huge, even for a Space Marine.
‘I knew you would come Abbadon, you couldn’t delay this for any longer while I decimated your forces,’ he spoke quietly.
‘I think you, need to be taught your place. Solaris.’
The last word was spat out, full of spite. A smile flickered across Solaris’s lips.
‘I see it is only you this time. Scared of more embarrassment?’
‘Only worried that my blow will not be the one which ends you pitiful existence,’ Abbadon shot back.
Solaris turned, and dropped the melta-bomb to his foot, armed and ready before activating his teleportation device, and flickered out of existence. Abbadon would not be happy, and anger would lead to mistakes. Only then could Solaris take his life…

Chapter Master Causen

The figure crouched down as the Bloodletters approached, their horns glistening as his lightning claws. Suddenly he burst from the rubble – charging forward at an amazing speed before lopping off the first daemons head in surprise. His alternate claw ran through a second as the others turned, blades rising into the air. 10-1. But their advantage was cut short, as nine other Marines charged from the cover loosing bolts from their pistols.

Causen is the current Chapter Master of the Shadow Hunters. Bearing the Assassins Claws, a pair of ancient Lightning Claws gifted from the Ultramarines themselves, he is fearsome to face the wrath of in combat and a great leader – never faltering in the face of combat.
He faced Kharn in combat, losing one of his own arms before performing a risky strike, wounding the Betrayer. Several times Causen has lead small teams against forces ten times their size, and performed dangerous manoeuvres to annihilate them utterly.
He was one of 10 survivors in the siege of Fortswyth, when an Eldar reclamation force attacked an Imperial outpost, forcing the small defence force to hold off until extraction. Causen lead a portion of the second company in defence of the chapter’s gene-seed on their homeworld Durin IV, against the Tyranids and was one of three Marines to survive when a Chaos Space Marine force was summoned inside. Saren, the previous Chapter Master was killed in defence of the planet and Causen was elevated to the position.
Since then he has lead considerably larger sized forces against Warmaster Jacob and Abbadon the Despoiler alongside the Ultramarines, Salamanders, Grey Knights and Dark Angels.
He has been instrumental in slowing Abbadon’s advance and his tactically adept mind has caused victory in several major space conflicts.

Causen activated his lightning claws and leapt out of the back of the Thunderhawk and was suddenly rocketing through the air. He watched the battlefield spread out below him before checking his HUD. The rest of the squad were in formation behind him. When he hit 1000m the jump pack kicked in, steadily slowing his descent, but he still hit the ground hard – shocking the Chaos Marines. Within seconds he unattached the jump pack and leapt through the air, his claw entering the nearest traitor Marine’s skull. The combat would not last long, but the war was a long way from over.

The Shadow Hunters

This is my first blog for this army and I will start by giving a brief history and overview of the major characters. Here goes nothing;

Ordo Malleus Report
Eyes Only

Shadow Hunters

Armor:
A ghostly urban camouflage, blue with darker splotches. Different sections of armour, depending on unit type, are coloured white in the 1st company, and ancient Greek symbols are used to name squads

Composition: It follows the Adeptus Asteres to the word apart from a few small deviations. The command structure is not dissimilar to normal but librarians are held in high esteem. The 2nd company is coloured white rather than silver and contains several varieties of veteran squads, from standard ‘tactical’ marines to ‘assault’, ‘devastator’ and ‘close combat’ varieties. It also currenltly has no Captain and Librarian Solaris and Chaplain Dazreth are filling the blank. The only other real difference is that it is lacking a 2nd Tactical reserve company.

Traits: The shadow marines are a diligent chapter, as delicate as a knife, able to infiltrate enemy territory and then capture or destroy vital objectives. They value stealth and knowledge above all else, finding out as much about their enemy as they can before launching an assault. Because of this many of the chapters squads practice the bolter grip, the hard to master but effective wielding style. They also specialise in rapid assaults like with many other chapters.

History: The Shadow Hunters emerged in the inner region of the Ultima Segmentum only a small 500 years ago. Because of their style of battle it is rumoured they are third founding chapters of the raven guard, but attained gene-seeds suggest dark angels or ultramarines (The sample was corrupted, see attached sheet). They were called to aid by the ultramarines during hive fleets behemoth and kraken, and soon became effective xeno fighters. On the Shadow marine’s homeworld, the Imperial Guard also maintains a regiment, the Shadow guard, in honour of their space marine protectors. Their armours distinctive colours came from a decade long campaign, lead against the orks. They stained patches of the armour darker blue so they could be better concealed. This tradition has been upheld since in all but a few squads. An informative there has noted tau and Eldar diplomats have met with Causen (See attached sheets), the current chapter master. If this is confirmed the chapter will be declared excommunate traitors. Recently, their attention has turned to Abbadon’s latest crusade, and Solaris, the chapters chief Librarian (See attached sheet) alongside Dazreth, the master of sancticity (See attached sheet) have lead several assaults into the path of his invasion.

It is advised that the shadow hunters are kept under tight surveillance, in the near future because of their proximity to the chaos threat. A company of Daemonhunters will be detached to assist, but more importantly, observe them.
